Erick Ybarra attempted a response on canon 6 of Nicea and was so confused in his attempt to explain it away, I offered to hop on and debate it and the paradigms of Roman Catholic epistemology and Orthodoxy. The canonical and conciliar traditions about Rome as the first see grew, over many centuries, to be viewed as a magical divine super power. It’s that simple. RCs mistake and misuse canonical privileges for Divine Law and Institution. That is basically the entire debate – Bartholomew is doing this now.
Erick at each stage of the debate fails to even grasp what my arguments are and what a paradigm is, and seems unaware of what the difference between classical foundationalism and coherence theory is. I said John XXIII’s error, and I meant John XXII. He constantly repeats slow motion rehashes of the same arguments over and over and is either extremely hard headed or bad willed. Regardless, it was a “debate” that was basically the Roman Catholic version of Ask Yourself. Ybarra, like most Roman Catholics, reads Vatican I back into the early councils and squirms at any mention of the fact that the present day popes openly pray in mosques toward Mecca. Unfortunately we never really got to the issue of two separate paradigms because he apparently doesn’t understand basic epistemology.
