  1. Great write up, I missed a lot of these little details,
and the symbolism flew went right over my head.
I’m gonna have to re-watch this show at some point.

  2. Another great analysis by Mr. Dyer. When I watched Season 1, I was amazed at how detailed and blatant the references to Satan worship and pedophilia/child sacrifice were. But what was more amazing were the comments that I read from other watchers who were puzzled by the occult references or didn’t get the idea that “True Detective” was based on “True” facts about how life really is-a spiritual battle. I was also disturbed by the scene where Marty looked down at the display that his daughter had set up that was an accurate picture of a ritual abuse scene, and it never seemed to register with him that his own daughter was a victim. Or did he know, but realized it was the price required for him to achieve whatever level of success that he had as a policeman. Last comment, Rust seemed to typify the “shaman’s journey” as he had to go through terrible personal pain and excessive drug use to get his “spiritual awakening”, to be able to see through to the other side. All in all, I really enjoyed and was slightly freaked out by this series. Way to close to reality to be only “entertainment”.
