1 thought on “Numbers Refute Materialism – Jay Dyer

  1. Hi Jay,

I’ve listened to a number of your recent debates including those against ‘AskYourself’ and ‘Infidel’. Both of these debates ended up boiling down to an argument about concepts such as logic, as was the case with AskYourself, and numbers, as was the case with Infidel. From my perspective, the fundamental question being asked at these critical points in the debates was “Do we extend ontological status to concepts or not”. I think that is an interesting question worth exploring in its own right. While I come from a materialist background that says “concepts are not real”, I’m not wedded to the idea, and I’m curious how you would respond to that. Would you distinguish between classes of concepts, those that are ‘real’ and those that are not? How would you draw that distinction? What criteria would you use for classifying concepts and how does this relate to what you would describe as their ‘essences’?

    Thanks
