David Bowie’s Occult Labyrinth – Esoteric Hollywood

Jay's Analysis

Recorded shortly before the news reports of Bowie’s death, I did a wild and wacky segment on Henson’s spandex classic with Bowie, The Labyrinth.  In this talk I cover my in-depth written analysis of the esoteric and occult elements of this children’s fantasy, replete with Jungian references, Egyptian hermeticism and the Golem.

jim hensons The Storyteller episode 1: The Soldier & Death youtube.com/watch?v=ZvsnV0yNddc Russian demonology folktale retold in English by Arthur Ransome who was an MI5 agent and childrens author. This was directed by Anthony Minghella who won the oscar for The English Patient. In that movie the fates of multiple characters were linked together, and the actions of one character affects all the others. In witchcraft this is called ‘domino’. You create a domino cord between several people, kill one and they all share the same fate. The occultist could even link people to his own doppleganger then kill it. In 2005 Minghella directed a party election broadcast for the Labour Party. The short film depicted Tony Blair and Gordon Brown working together and was criticised for being insincere.
